Alternative to XPO_EasyFields

In my last post Sean commented about an alternative using Lambda expressions as an alternative to using XPO_EasyFields.

http://kearon.blogspot.com/2010/10/replacing-strings-in.html

This indeed is a great post, as I will confess I am hopeless when it comes to Lambda, I was stuck in the .NET2 world for too long and I haven’t caught up… yet.

Sean does mention that there is a performance hit using this approach apparently up to 10-15x overhead, yikes, but as he mentions, probably isn’t going to be that noticeable on smaller projects.

The introduction of .NET 3 dependency to your project is another small issue, as some people are still locked down to .NET 2 for the moment.

I would like to just mention however that although XPO_EasyFields does indeed use CodeRush you do not need a full license to use it, the Free CodeRush Express will run this as well (as the plugin is more of a DXCore plugin), however I can understand like in Sean’s instance whereby the installation of CodeRush/DXCore may conflict with other addons such as R# Edit: Sean has commented that it isn't due to a conflict but rather a personal preference not to have them both installed at the same time, however I would imagine that they would clash a little at times, but good to know if you do use R# and want to use XPO_EasyFields you can use CodeRush to acheive it still, thx Sean for the information.

Happy XPO’ing

Hi Michael

There's no conflict that I know of with CodeRush and Resharper - it's only that I'm very used to Resharper and I like keep my installs as into VS as few as possible. I have read blogs where people have worked very happily with them both. As each is about as deep and as powerful as the other, I can't imagine how to live with the two together!!

Cheers

Sean

Thanks mate, just updated the post. Must admit I haven't looked at R# as I have CodeRush included with my subscription so it saves me more $$$ which is rather important
